Jack London’s famed Valley of the Moon hosts

this year’s edition

The 27th Wine Country Film Festival, September 25-29, is wine country’s original film festival. This five day celebration of cinema, the arts, music and cultural exchange is notable for its slow pace, unique venues and affordability. Whether purchasing a $75 Festival Pass (good for all films and special events) or individual film tickets, locals and visitors alike are drawn to the Festival’s rich program based on its innovation and creativity.  

The program of 60 films and special presentations takes place in Jack London’s world famous Valley of the Moon also known as the Heart of Sonoma Valley. The venues are

outdoors under the stars and in the cave at Deerfield Ranch Winery, the event’s exclusive winery host and St. Patrick’s Church in Kenwood and Dunbar School in nearby Glen Ellen.

Five movie nights at Deerfield Ranch Winery kick off Wednesday evening Sept 25th withThe Artist and the Model (Spain) by Oscar winner Fernando Trueba preceded by a reception with Glen Ellen painter Adam Shaw, the festival’s Official Artist, a short film about his art and philosophy and a chocolate truffle and wine pairing with the winery’s owner and winemaker, Robert Rex. In advance of its US opening, Gravity starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock screens Friday night September 27th. There will be delicious food by CafeMugShot and Palooza Catering and Events and wine by the glass or bottle available for purchase at DRW. Please no outside food or beverages. Some chairs and tables for al fresco dining are available on a first come first served basis. Low back chairs are welcome. Most nights at DRW there will be a special presentation or live music. Nights are cool. Please bring a warm jacket.

The Festival has created inspiring film programs in cooperation with Bay Area organizations including Foodscaping Sonoma Country, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Santa Rosa Wu Academy, Checkerbloom Society, Sonoma Valley School District, and San Francisco Guzheng Music Society, among others.

Programs not to miss are Touch of the Light (Taiwan) preceded by a Tai Chi Sword demonstration, Growing Cities followed by a discussion about Sonoma County’s grassroots movement to grow healthy food, Oscar winner Jonathan Demme’s new documentary Enzo Avitabile

and A Film About Kids and Music: Sant Andreu Jazz Band (Spain).
