City of Sonoma Hires New Public Works Director, City Engineer


The City of Sonoma is pleased to announce that it has hired Dan Takasugi as their new Public Works Director / City Engineer. Takasugi most recently served six years as the Public Works Director / City Engineer for the City of Calistoga. He plans to assume duties at Sonoma on April 29, 2013.

Takasugi has over 25 years of experience in Public Works, Utility management, and Capital Project management, which will provide solid support for the City’s aging infrastructure. “I am excited to join the City of Sonoma’s team and am looking forward to working collaboratively with City staff and the community to solve significant Public Works challenges.”

City Manager Carol Giovanatto, notes, “Filling this position completes the transition from having a separate Public Works Administrator and contracted City Engineer, to having a combined single position of Public Works Director / City Engineer.

"Mr. Takasugi’s record of implementing solutions to complex problems will be a good fit for the City’s Public Works Department.”

Takasugi was the top candidate in a recruitment process conducted by the City Manager which spanned both northern and southern California.

Giovanatto further comments, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Takasugi’s talent, innovation and knowledge into our Management Team. I look forward to working together with a focus toward creating a longterm plan for infrastructure strategies and rate-setting methodologies.”

Takasugi is a California-licensed Professional Civil Engineer and has a M.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, a M.S. Degree in Computer Systems Management from the University of Maryland, a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and a B.S. Degree in Computer Science from Seattle Pacific University. He is a 22-year veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, attaining the rank of Commander.
