Pivot Charter School to Celebrate Class of 2013

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Pivot Charter School, North Bay, an accredited public school offering blended and completely virtual programs for students, grades 6-12, in Sonoma and surrounding counties, will hold its commencement at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Bennett Valley Golf Course, 3330 Yalupa Ave., Santa Rosa. Family, friends, teachers and administrators will gather to celebrate the achievements of Pivot’s class of 2013. The ceremony will include recognition of students who have received significant college scholarships and awards for those who have excelled academically. Helping the graduates achieve this milestone was the school’s philosophy of creating individualized learning programs that meet the needs of each student, allowing them to learn in their own way and at their own pace. Pivot North Bay graduates will attend colleges including the University of California, Berkeley; California State University campuses; and local two- and four-year institutions. Other post-graduation plans include working at a computer repair shop, travel, and attending technical and trade schools. “We are immensely proud of our graduates, their accomplishments and the intellectual and emotional growth we’ve witnessed firsthand as they have progressed through our program and achieved this important milestone,” said Jayna Gaskell, Pivot Charter Schools executive director. “While at Pivot, they have gained the skills and knowledge needed to ensure future success -- whatever their personal goals.” Pivot North Bay offers a choice of site-based and virtual educational programs. Students in either program use an online curriculum that allows them to learn at their own pace and receive one-on-one attention. Students in the site-based blended program attend school at the Santa Rosa facility from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays/Thursdays or 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and receive tutoring, small group classes and learning labs from credentialed teachers on-site and online. The school plans to extend its site-based offerings for the 2013-14 school year. Students in the virtual program complete their coursework from the comfort of their own homes, have real-time access to experienced, credentialed online teachers who are available to provide instruction 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and can meet with teachers in person at Pivot’s Santa Rosa facility if additional assistance is needed. Pivot Charter School offers a comprehensive, standards-based curriculum, including more than 15 Advanced Placement courses, unique electives like music theory and graphic arts, credit recovery and early graduation options. Students can jump-start their college careers with dual enrollment in college courses. Nationally recognized learning provider Advanced Academics supplies the program’s learning management system, web-based curriculum and online teaching staff. “We would like to extend our congratulations to Pivot’s graduating seniors on a job well done,” said Robert York, Advanced Academics president. “Advanced Academics is honored to partner with ROADS Education and Pivot Charter Schools – they are using cutting-edge technology to revolutionize how educational content is delivered and to create customized educational programs for their students.” Pivot Charter School is ideal for many students, including home-schooled students, those needing a flexible schedule due to work or outside activity or family obligations, students living in remote locations, advanced learners or students with health or physical challenges.
