Get Out! Weekend Planner: April 7

It's Film Festival Weekend—parties, Susan Sarandon and films galore--but that's not all! Make hanging baskets, create authentic Ukrainian Easter Eggs, browse an artisan fair and check out some nifty flying machines.

ACTIVITIES

Experience the excitement of the Festival even if you don't have a coveted free-for-all pass.  On Thursday, April 7, see productions at 9 a.m.; at 12:30 catch Deeper, and at 3 p.m. see Guitar Man - all at the Sebastiani Theatre. HANGING BASKET WORKSHOP

Design and construct your own hanging basket of growing flowers this Saturday morning, when Sonoma Valley landscape designer Kathleen Bunte gives a hands-on workshop. Meet some artists, have some BBQ and browse arts and crafts - for a cause. Blown glass, leather goods, handmade quilts and wearable art are just a few of the crafts you’ll see on display this Saturday, April 9, at (389 Fourth Street East) from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Added benefit: show a purchase receipt at the winery and receive a 10% discount on tasting and gift room items. UKRAINIAN EASTER EGG WORKSHOP/DANCE RECITAL

Learn the traditional art of decorating hollowed out eggs in brilliant designs. Visiting students from one Sonoma's sister cities - Kaniv, Ukraine - will demonstrate how to design and paint eggs (which was once forbidden in the Soviet Union) in rich traditional colors. The workshop, Saturday, April 9, runs from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. at , 205 First Street West.  A $7.50 donation is requested. Call 935-1225 to reserve your place. On Sunday evening, April 10, the Ukrainian students will present Ukrainian dances and a cultural exhibit at 6 p.m. The (561-B Broadway) is hosting the event. A $5 donation.

SCHELLVILLE DISPLAY DAYS

If flying machines fascinate you, plan on visiting the (known locally as the Schellville Airport) this weekend, April 9, or 10. The airport will be showing off its antique planes, “warbirds” and other classic planes from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. The  hangars are open for touring at 23980 Arnold Drive.
