The weather this time of year is totally unpredictable, so here are some fun activities to do rain or shine.

Welcome to the latest installment of the Grab and Go Kids Planner, where we give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week in Sonoma and elsewhere in Sonoma County.

YOUR CHILD’S

Why: A richly detailed and painted ceramic imprint of your child’s hands (or feet) to treasure, or to give as a gift for grandparents.

NATIVE  PLANT NURSERY

Where/when: 19996 7th Street East, Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. till noon.

Why: Time to start planting. Learn about native plants while helping the Garden Park propagate them. A great "dig in" activity for kids, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Wear clothes you won’t mind getting dirty and sturdy shoes. Bring gloves, a snack and refillable water bottle. Reserve your spot at 996-0712 X102.

ORGANIC BEEKEEPING WORKSHOP

Where/when: 9996 7th Street East, Saturday march 12, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why: Bees are a vital part of our food production, and currently a declining species. Beekeeper Randy Sue Collins demonstrates how to start your own hives, discusses equipment, plus sharing her experiences with bees. Even if you never plan to keep bees, you'll leave with an important "new understanding of the honeybee."

Price: $10 for Sonoma Ecology Center members; $15 for non-members. Reserve by Friday, March 11 by calling Sandi at 996-0712 x110.

KIDS CLINIC: MAKE A BASKETBALL HOOP

Where/when: Lowe’s, 7921 Redwood Drive, Cotati, Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why: Build and Grow Kid Clinics give children the chance to say, “I built it!”  Kids receive a free apron, goggles, their project, and certificate of merit -- plus knowing how to make a basketball hoop.

Price: Free. Sign-up is a must.

BOWLING: A GREAT RAINY DAY SPORT

Where/when: Boulevard Lanes, 1100 Petaluma Blvd., South, Petaluma, Firday, Noon to 1 a.m., Saturday 10 a/m- 1.a.m. Sunday noon to 12 a.m.

Why: Family fun at any level and good exercise. Since Sonoma doesn’t have a  bowling alley, AMF Boulevard Lane is a good bet. Also has pool tables, and a full-service restaurant. Receive a coupon when you sign up for their online club, and another one on your birthday.

Price: $5.70 per person (any age); shoes, $4.25 .
