Sonoma County 12th Healthiest in the State, Marin is #1

Marin ranked first, followed by Placer, Santa Clara, San Mateo counties

Sonoma County takes pride in being a region where people are physically fit and care about what they put in their bodies.

But a new report has ranked Sonoma only 12th out of 58 counties in the state, docking points for a higher rate of excessive drinking and having fewer primary care physicians and dentists compared to other parts of California.

Sonoma was also found to have a higher percentage of fast-food restaurants than the national average, with 37 percent of all restaurants considered fast-food, according to study.

We know they're talking about that other part of Sonoma County, not the Sonoma Valley.

Marin County was ranked as the healthiest county in California, followed by Placer, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

Ranked just ahead of Sonoma County was San Luis Obispo, and coming in at Number 13 was Santa Cruz.

While low-populated Alpine County was not rated, Lake County came in last.

The County Health Rankings used data from more than half a dozen sources, including the National Center for Health Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Community Survey.
