Fundraisers, filmmakers, and "Puttin' on the Glitz"

-- If you haven't yet made plans for New Year's Eve, a great way to celebrate is at the benefit, "Puttin on the Glitz."  A cocktail party with full bar, auction and "comfort food" paired with wine, plus dancing to Pride and Joy, plus a midnight champagne toast are all part of the night's entertainment at . Tickets can be purchased by calling 938-1990 or online at sonomamentoring.org 

--Attention filmmakers: Theis accepting films for their 2011 festival from now until February 14. Local filmmakers should submit their work to: SIFF, Box 1613, Sonoma, CA 95476. No entry fee required. Your entries will also be considered for other major film festivals.

--Local Girl Scouts will be fund-raising by picking up unwanted Christmas trees this coming weekend (Jan.1 & 2) and the next (Jan. 8 & 9).  The trees the Girls Scouts collect will be converted to mulch by Sonoma County Waste Management.  Leave trees by the curb before 10 a.m. with $5 in an envelope for trees six feet and under, and $10 for larger trees. Place the envelope with your tax deductible donation under your doormat. Trees in Sonoma and Glen Ellen will be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

--CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children) seeks child advocate volunteers able to give 10-12 hours monthly. More than 36 youngsters currently need an advocate. New advocates will receive a three-day training beginning Thursday, Jan 20, 2011. For more information call Millie Gilson at 565-6375.

--Another way to help CASA help kids is to visit Audelssa Estate Winery in Glen Ellen (13750 Arnold Drive) this holiday season. Audelssa is donating a portion of all tasting room proceeds to CASA. To raise even more money for kids, the winery will raffle the "great one," a double magnum (3 liter) of the 2007 Cabernet Reserve." The tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
