Dog training, creative cooking, and getting fit

A new year brings new opportunities to focus on activities that enrich your life—to do more that matters to you. Here are some events that can do both.

--Getting into shape is the number one 2011 goal for many people. To keep your resolve and increase your chances of success, plan on joining others who have the same goal.  A few possibilities: The holds a Jazzercise class Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; hosts a Yoga class from 9:30-10:30 each Monday;  and Sonoma F.I.T. is offering half price classes for new students at its new location--50 Lichtenbeg Ave., at Hwy. 12-- about a block from their old studio. --If you are a Sonoma resident, 16-21 years old studying writing, art, music, or one of the performing arts, be sure to apply for the being given by the Sonoma Cultural and Fine Arts Commission. --If cooking more creatively is on your list of resolutions, take a class at (450 Spain Street.) Making "perfect puff pastry" or learning to cook superbly is creative and rewarding. --Perhaps you've vowed that this year you'll work on your canine friend's naughty behavior. If that's the case, sign up for one of winter training classes at the Sonoma Community Center. Classes start tomorrow night: 6 p.m. for the beginning class, and 7 p.m. for the intermediate level. Only 6 dogs, with their owners, will be admitted to the training. Sign up online or by calling the Center at 938-4626.
