Stars Come Out Dancing for May’s First Weekend

"Dancing with our Stars" is a friendly competition for a good cause, and a lot of fun for amateur and pro alike

The first weekend in May is shaping up to have more going for it than bluebells. The Sonoma Community Center dances into spring with its re-vamped Dancing with Our Stars, modeled after the hit TV show, to raise funds for its arts education programs and events.

Now in its third year, the 2013 Dancing with Our Stars event will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Sonoma Veterans Building. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. – the dance floor will be open to the public before the event begins and while the votes are tallied, so bring your dancing shoes.

The actual dance competition starts at 7:30, featuring talented dance professionals paired with local luminaries performing in front of the audience. Voting, however, has already begun via the Sonoma Community Center website. Votes are $5 each –  proceeds will help raise additional funds for the Center.

On Saturday night, judges Suzanne Brangham, Steve Page and Suzy Fridell will add their two cents based on the dance completion itself and, taking the popular vote into consideration, crown the winning couple.

The emcees will be Squire Fridell and Jean Arnold-Sessions of Hanzell Winery.  Competing couples include the following:
