Week in Review: Feb. 19

When the rains came...

This week started out a little glum, and then it just kept getting worse. Or at least weirder.  The early summer turned to grey skies, incessant rain and snow in the foothills (check it out: crazy!).  Be careful in the rain, officials.

Not everyone stayed indoors hiding from the rain. Bibliophiles braved a hailstorm for deals and steals at the Book Sale. Over 10,000 donated volumes were on sale.

The infamous 2007 . The shooter, Juan Manuel Carlos, was sentenced to the maximum sentence, 25 years to life in prison for the crime. The county administration mentioned that this development shows a tough stance on gang violence, even though Carlos was a minor when he commited the slaying.

Meanwhile, the trial of Kevin Haywood, was of evidence. Haywood is charged with building a meth lab in his mother's residence, .

, a type of therapeutic massage designed to help relieve the pain of cancer patients, after her husband Mike, a retired fire chief, was diagnosed with parotid gland cancer. Oncology massage is a growing, but still rare practice in the states.

We also checked in with a local furniture designer who makes unique pieces from found and reused local wood. Green to the extreme! (I not so secretly covet some of these .)
