And if you're the type who likes to know the history of their holidays, here are a few fun facts about ice cream according to International Dairy Foods Association and the National Ice Cream Retailers Association.

- It takes approximately 50 licks to finish off a scoop of ice cream.

- It is estimated that 90 percent of the nation's population likes ice cream, making it almost a universal crowd pleasing treat.

- The major ingredient in ice cream is air.

- Although ice cream is thought to have been invented in China, the U.S. is the top ice cream consuming country.
