You've Got Mail - 100 Years of the Boyes Post Office

Springs community recruiting volunteers for centennial celebration.

On any given day the Boyes Hot Springs Post Office is a flurry of activity - people mailing packages, running errands and catching up with neighborhood gossip.

For most of the history of the Springs, the post office has been a community regular. For almost a century the Post Office has stood within a couple blocks of its current location; it moved into its current spot in 1951, the year the compound was built.

To commemorate the event, a team is planning a celebration of the Post Office.

Tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 9 (permits permitting) the event will feature music, food, and general block party antics, in addition to a historical exhibit of the post office throughout the years.

But, in order to make it happen, they need you. "At this point, we especially need people with some experience or at least interest in organizing public events," said Mike Acker, the lead coordinator of the event.

The team is looking for experienced civic organizers, historians, committed volunteers and/or anyone with archival photographs or historic documents from the post office.

According to Acker, the group is working on a Kickstarter project for funding. If you'd like to donate, keep an eye out here - we'll post the link as soon as it's up.
