Depot Park Museum speaker to discuss the Springs

Michael Acker, a lifelong artist and 15-year resident of Sonoma Valley is the creator of  the “Valley of the Moon Main Stem Project, A Panorama in Space and Time.” He will be speaking about his art and how it relates to The Springs area at Sonoma Valley Historical Society’s Depot Park Museum, on Friday, March 16, at 2 p.m.

For the main stem project, Acker photographed every building and lot on Highway 12 between Agua Caliente Road and Verano Avenue and created a series of photo collage/watercolor panoramas that was displayed at the Sonoma Community Center last year. “The project (was) part historical document and part personal interpretation of images of the area in which I live, that I love and that fascinates me,” Acker said.

One of the pieces was displayed at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art in Sonoma at the end of last year.

Acker, who is currently president of the Sonoma Valley Grange, also organized a public art project of old Springs photos that were hung in the Boyes Hot Springs Post Office as part of the post office’s centennial celebration. In addition, he designed a commemorative envelope and special postmark in connection with the event last July.

His presentation at the museum will include video projections of artwork and a Q and A with the audience.
