Get out your Minnie Mouse ears.
The Bay-Area-bred Kreayshawn, who shot to fame last year after her catchy “Gucci Gucci” video went viral, is kicking off her cross-country tour in Petaluma, at The Phoenix on Sept. 22.
Since Kreayshawn, born Natassia Gail Zolot, released her designer bashing manifesto, encouraging girls to have their own style, she has become rap’s it-girl.
Snoop Dog has called her the missing link between “black dudes who make rap and white girls who like it.” But she has sparked controversy too, by using the “n-word” in her songs, criticized by rappers who say that a white woman should not be using it.
Kreyshawn, whose trademark thick eyeliner is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, was nominated Artist of the Year by MTV Music Awards and has signed a contract with Columbia Records. Not bad for a 22-year-old.
Husalah opens the show at 8pm. Tickets $25.
