Photographing Wildlife from Pole to Pole a Dream Come True
Wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas to share secrets for capturing wildlife on film
The Sonoma County Regional Parks will host an evening of images and advice from wildlife photographer Suzi Esterhaus, who spends half her year far from home, and closer to nature.
"My whole life's goal, for a slong as I can remember, is to do this," said the 36-year old photographer. She shoots digital, not film or slides ("Of course," she said) but has managed to convert her dream to reality through a "workaholic" commitment.
Her portfolio represents journeys to Antarctica, Brazil, Tanzania, Greenland and China, among others, but it’s not so much the name of the country as the life that’s found there that attracts her eye.
The Marin County native has photographed wildlife in tropical rain forests, the Arctic Ocean and African savannas. She has followed bears, penguins, sea otters, lions, gorillas, cheetahs and many more, photographing not only the animals but the people involved in efforts to protect them and their habitats.
Her work with newborn and infant wild animals has earned particular attention, and credits in "National Geographic Kids" and "Ranger Rick" among others. Eszterhas’s photos can be found in books, major magazines and newspapers around the world, including the cover of the Time magazine issue, “The Global Warming Survival Guide.”
Nature lovers and photographers will enjoy this special evening, presented by Sonoma Birding and Sonoma County Regional Parks at the Veterans Memorial Building, 95476, 7:00 p.m. A $5 donation is requested.
