Sonoma Weekend Planner August 19-21

From an 'Immigrant Experience' Festival and a recycled art workshop to a fantastic picnic in the Plaza and a duck derby we've got you covered this weekend.

Friday and Saturday:

Nuestra Voz, Sonoma Theatre Alliance, and San Francisco Immigrant Film Festival present Sonoma’s First Annual Immigrant Experience; a two-day event that includes bilingual films from Mexico, Spain, Italy and the United States as well as dance, speakers, traditional Mexican foods and many more cultural activities.

If you go: General Admission is $10, 1-Day Pass,  Pase de 1 día, $20 for a 2-Day Pass, Pase de 2 días, $30 for a 2 Day Pass that includes food. Tickets are available at Nuestra Voz Center, 200 Fuente Lane and at the door Andrews Hall, , 276 East Napa St.( Boletos disponibles en el Centro de Nuestra Voz, 200 Fuente Lane y en la entrada Andrews Hall, Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa St.). Friday’s event is from 7-10 p.m. and Saturday’s event is from 4–10 p.m. at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa Street in Sonoma.

Saturday:

Bring your children, ages 5 to 12, to express their creativity by creating Art in the Garden. The kids will have a blast turning trash into treasures. The workshop is free, materials will be provided, and registration is not required. This workshop is being sponsored by the and the .

If you go: Drop-in anytime between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to participate. Sonoma Garden Park is at 19996 7th Street East in Sonoma.

 

Saturday:

The is proud to host The Red & White Ball in support of the public schools of Sonoma Valley. Dave Martin's House Party Band will transform the plaza into the hottest dance party of the year. Food from the school gardens and delicious local wine are featured.  Bring your picnic and dance for just $25.  Have your picnic handed to you (including wine, local bread, cheese, a side salad, and a sweet treat) all in a reusable bag for $75, or take a seat under the historic tree canopy at our farm to table catered feast for just $150.

Saturday:

The Community Barn Dance will once again give people a 'chance to dance' to toe-tapping live music this Saturday in the social hall of the . Rebecca King, a favorite Valley music teacher, happens to also be a favorite contra dance piano player around Northern California, and she will be joined on Saturday by accomplished "fiddlinist" Michelle Levy (of String Fire). The caller is Kelsey Hartman.

If you go: Donations for the musicians of $5 are requested from people ages 21 - 65. The dance is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 109 Patten St. in Sonoma.

 

Sunday:

Bring your friends and family over for the inaugural Ducky Derby, benefiting the . Go online to adopt your duck or flock of ducks and come watch the race held on the Gundlach Bundschu Winery’s lovely pond to see if yours makes it to the finish line!  Race day is open to the public and there will be a lot of amazing prizes, as well as food and Gun Bun wine available for purchase. Visit the Boys and Girls Club website to adopt your ducks.

If you go: Those ducks will set you back $10 apiece, 3 for $25, 7 for $50 (and so on). The derby is from 10:30-1:30 p.m. at Gundlach Bundschu Winery 2000 Denmark Street in Sonoma. Need some shade? Purchase four seats on shaded "Millionaire's Row," that includes reserved seating in the lovely patio area, lunch for four, a bottle of wine and eight ducks for $250.
