Sonoma Weekend Planner August 5-7

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Check out what's going on in the Sonoma calendar.

Friday:

The Maxwell Farms Regional Park Stewardship is hosting a free evening of hikes.  Choose the one that you like best! There are 50 acres of open space and riparian corridor along Sonoma Creek which most visitors have not explored. Choose from“Native and Invasive Plants” led by Sonoma County Regional Parks staff,  “Scavenger Hunt” led by Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley staff, or  “Geocaching Adventures” utilizing GPS units led by staff.

If you go: This free evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a “bring your own dinner” meal at the picnic tables near the parking lot.  At 7:00 p.m. the guided hikes in the Park begin. Hikes are appropriate for all ages with an approximate duration of 1.5 hours. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Please wear sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. No RSVP required. Hikes are subject to change without notice. Maxwell Farms Regional Park is at 100 W Verano Ave in Sonoma.

This hilarious cult classic features Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, an LA slacker who gets entangled in a case of mistaken identity. Featuring John Goodman and Steve Buscemi as his dysfunctional bowling buddies, The Big Lebowski follows the confused antics of The Dude, who really just wants to sit back with a White Russian and get someone to replace his soiled rug. Also features priceless performances by Julianne Moore, John Turturro, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Gun Bun's annual night under the stars features live music by Band Camp at 7 p.m., followed by the movie at dusk at approximately 8:45 p.m.

If you go: Advance tickets are $10, $15 at the door  and tickets can be bought by clicking here. A VIP couples package is $75. Picnic dinners will be available for purchase. Remember your blankets and low chairs (the amphitheatre is on a grassy hill). Gundlach Bundschu Winery is at 2000 Denmark Street in Sonoma.

 

Saturday:

Nine independent wineries of the notable Eighth Street Wineries collaborative are throwing a soiree. Housed in an unlikely warehouse district of rural Sonoma, these independent producers offer fine artisan wines you won't find on the mass market and include Anaba Wines, Enkidu Wines, MacRostie Winery, Parmelee-Hill Wines and Vineyards, Stone Edge Farms, Talisman Wines, Three Sticks Winery, Tin Barn Vineyards, and Ty Caton. Wander from cellar to cellar enjoying limited-production wares. Sample current releases, library offerings, and barrel tastings. Indulge in gourmet food pairings provided by top local restaurants and caterers.

Saturday:

The American Cancer Society's largest, nation-wide fundraiser is coming to Sonoma! This 24-hour event will be held at the Sonoma Valley High School track. Teams of 8-15 people share time walking around the track, keeping one team member on track at all times. Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people- to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved ones lost to the disease; and fight back against a disease that takes too much. Opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m.

If you go: Opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m. at track field, 2000 Broadway in Sonoma.

 

Sunday:

Come join your friends and neighbors for this wonderful breakfast at the Grange Hall. The pancakes are organic wheat & corn freshly ground that morning. Local, free-range grilled sausages, juice, frittata w/ free-range eggs, organic coffee and tea, real maple syrup, and espresso’s. Enjoy a delicious breakfast "in the Springs.”

If you go: The all-inclusive breakfast costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. The breakfast is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sonoma Valley Grange, 18627 Highway 12 (across form Mary’s in the Springs) in Sonoma.
