Sonoma Weekend Planner July 15-17

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Check out some of the things on the Sonoma Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Saturday:

The Community Barn Dance will once again give people a 'chance to dance' to toe-tapping live music this Saturday. Rebecca King, a favorite Valley music teacher, happens to also be a favorite contra dance piano player around Northern California, and she will be joined on Saturday by accomplished "fiddlinist" Michelle Levy (of String Fire).  The caller is Kelsey Hartman. Dance organizer Lauren Ayers says, "Even third graders can do this. And men with a dance trauma in their history will like contra because the caller makes it soooo easy -- teaching each dance before the music begins and calling it while the band plays." 

If you go: A donation of $5 is requested for the musicians (for ages 21-65). The dance is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the social hall of the , 109 Patten (at First East) in Sonoma.

Saturday:

Jungian therapist and bestselling author, Jean Shinoda Bolen, will be reading from her latest book, Like a Tree.  Bolen reveals the remarkable parallels between the natural world and our ultimate obligation as human beings.

If you go: This free reading begins at 2:30 p.m. at , 130 E. Napa Street in Sonoma.

Saturday:

San Francisco Bay Area's finest Dixieland/Ragtime musicians will perform at the winery today. Enjoy a long afternoon of great music, dancing, delicious wine, and fantastic food.

If you go: Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.  The music is from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at , 24737 Arnold Dr in Sonoma.

Sunday:

Join the The Valley of the Moon Petanque Club for their “25th Anniversaire Grand Concours de Petanque,” a casual tournament and gourmet lunch to celebrate Bastille Day in style. Chef Christine Piccin has created a meal that includes an amuse bouche, grill-roasted leg of lamb with dried cherry rosemary sauce, a white bean puree, a green salad, bread and cheese.  Dessert includes a peach cake with sea-salt caramel with wine will be provided by Ravenswood. 

If you go: The tournament is $5 and registration closes at 10 a.m. Lunch is $15 and reservations are required. Information and reservations can be made by calling 707-343-9465 or online at www.vompc.org. The tournament is at Depot Park, 270 First Street West, between Napa and Spain Streets in Sonoma.
