The Sonoma Valley has no shortage of awesome nonprofits doing creative and thoughtful work to help create the kind of community we enjoy every day.

We can't feature all of them (find a comprehensive list here) but these are a few that are especially great.

A truly unique resource;  a dedicated center for youths to speak with compassionate professionals while working through loss. They offer numerous support groups, a lending library, and vast repository of resources.

4. Sonoma International Film Festival

While the rest of the world is in Oscar countdown, this event is right around the corner. More than just an artistic event, the film festival gives back to support artistic multimedia education in Sonoma's schools.

3. La Luz Center

La Luz is the center for the cultural life and social support of the Latino community and the name is almost eponymous with the Springs. La Luz provides everything from staff and support to a physical location for luncheons and meetings. Their calendar is always buzzing with a new initiative from their dedicated staff.

The Mentoring Alliance operates on a simple principal: Children with mentors do better, not just in school, but in life. The group not only matches children with competent caring mentors (they've made hundreds of matches) but provides support and activities to help the bonding begin!

As the school garden initiative breaks ground around town, the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation hasn't stopped for a pat on the back. Providing support for a number of enrichment activities and in the , the Foundation truly makes the Sonoma Valley a better place for youth.
