What's Going on at Tonight's City Council Meeting?

Big-box committee reviews and more on for tonight.

Tonight's session of the Sonoma City Council features a review of setting up a committee to deal with chain stores coming to town and a pretty good topic for general community conversation.

In mid-May, the Council appointed people to an advisory group to help with issues that can arise when a big-box or chain store indicates a desire to open for business in Sonoma.

Quite a stir arose among council members during that May 18 session, and now a review of the Ad Hoc Committee on Formula Stores is on tonight's agenda.

The Council is also going to consider tonight whether to offer its support of SB 568, a state Senate bill proposing banning styrofoam containers. What do you think of this idea? Is is a good idea for the state to ban their use in California?

Council sessions begin at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room, 177 First St. West.
