After extensive inspections by State agencies over the past month, Sonoma Valley Hospital has received approval to open its new wing. According to CEO Kelly Mather, both the new Emergency Department and Surgery Center will be fully operational and receiving patients by Wednesday, February 12.

“Thanks to a great team effort, we are finally opening the doors to our impressive new wing,” Mather said. “We want to thank the community for its faith in us and its generous financial support which made this all happen.”

The Hospital’s Emergency Department has 10,000 patient visits each year and receives 77 percent of the emergency room visits in the Sonoma Valley. At 6,586 square feet, it is three times the size of the previous facility and is planned so that 90 percent of emergency patients are admitted within 10 minutes of arrival.

The new Surgery Center, is 20 percent larger than the previous one and has three new state-of-the-art operating rooms, each with ample space to accommodate more complex cases and larger surgical teams. Operating rooms have integrated technology and the newest surgical equipment.
