Firefighter Benefit BBQ Set for Saturday

Ledson Winery will host the benefit to help cover the medical bills of Kenwood Volunteer and CAL FIRE firefighter Kevin Cooper, who suffered severe head trauma during a recent fall.

Ledson Winery will play host to a benefit BBQ this Saturday to help cover the medical bills of Kenwood volunteer firefighter Kevin Cooper, who suffered severe head trauma during a recent fall. 

Cooper, 34, remains in intensive care and faces long-term rehabilitation costs after he's released.

The Ledson and the Cooper families have long roots: Steve Ledson and Kevin’s father John attended school together, and the families have been friends ever since.

“Not only is this about family, both personal and local, this is about helping a firefighter," said Ledson. "These firefighters are the first to respond to emergency situations and should be cared for in the highest regard."

“In this time of need, we depend on these firefighters, but shouldn’t it be that in their time of need, they can depend on us," he said.

The BBQ, which will be held Saturday, July 16, from 6-10p.m., features all the fixings: including fireman's chili, side dishes and an auction. 

Items to be auctioned include: hotel stays at the , a hog hunt on Steve Ledson’s 5500 acre private ranch in Anderson Valley, a Lake Tahoe getaway; a Puerto Vallarta stay in a private condo, and a dinner party for 10 at Ledson Winery.

BBQ runs Saturday, July 16 from 6-10 p.m. at Ledson Winery, 7335 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood. Cost is $35.
