Gas Tax Going Up Monday

California drivers already pay some of the highest prices at the gas pump.

Starting Monday, July 1, they will pay even more, when the state increases the excise tax on every gallon of gasoline by 3.5 cents, the Press Democrat is reporting.

The increase was approved in February by a 3-2 vote by the state Board of Equalization as a way raise more revenue for California. Previously, the excise tax was 36 cents per gallon and will now increase to 39.5 cents per gallon.
