Rainy Weather Expected Entire Week

3700 customers without power in Sonoma County

Don’t put away your boots and umbrella just yet. A new round of rainy weather is expected starting as early as tonight and will continue for most of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 57 degrees and a 20 percent chance of rain. Wind gusts could be as high as 20 miles per hour, so slow down on the roads and watch for falling braches. Rain is expected Tuesday night, with heavy winds.

Wednesday will be all rain, continuing into Thursday. The North Bay region may get a break on Friday, but even then, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 57 degrees, according to the NWS.

“By the end of this week, many areas will have received their year’s worth of rain,” said Bob Benjamin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. “It’s a fairly prolonged period of rain, but we’re not in record territory by any means.”

The weekend, too, will be a wet one, with more than a 50 percent chance of showers. Meanwhile, the storm has already wreaked havoc in the region when it whipped up a small tornado in Santa Rosa Friday that ripped a roof off a storage facility. Falling trees destroyed homes in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol on Saturday and at least one person was killed in Napa when a tree fell on his car Saturday night.

As of 5pm Monday, 3700 PG&E customers in Sonoma County were without power, about a third of those in Sonoma. PG&E said the power outage was storm-related.

There is, however, a silver lining to all the rain. Water reservoirs are at 144 percent of the seasonal average, according to the California Department of Water Resources, and up to five inches snow is predicted in Lake Tahoe this week.
