Sonoma Sailor Among Crew of Farallon Yacht Tragedy

The San Francisco Yacht Club has released the names of four sailors who have been found dead or are missing after a yacht affiliated with the club hit the rocks near the Farallon Islands Saturday during a race.
Belvedere resident Marc Kasanin, 46, was pulled out of the water by rescuers and confirmed dead Saturday, according to the yacht club. Four other sailors -- Alexis Busch of Larkspur, Alan Cahill of Tiburon, 25-year-old Kentfield resident Jordan Fromm and another male sailor whose name has not yet been released - remain missing.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Air National Guard announced Sunday night that crews had suspended the search for the missing sailors and will not resume searching Monday morning.

That somber announcement came after more than 30 hours of scouring an area of more than 5,000 square miles following a fatal boating accident Saturday afternoon involving the 38-foot Sydney yacht, Low Speed Chase, according to the Coast Guard.
Captained by James Bradford, 41, of Chicago, the yacht was competing in the 2012 Full Crew Farallones Race Saturday when it met with large waves near one of the Farallon Islands around 3 p.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read said.

The boat was tossed by the waves, sending multiple crewmembers into the water and the yacht into the rocks.
Bradford and two crew members - identified by yacht club officials as Tiburon resident Brian Chong and Nick Vos of Sonoma - were rescued by the Coast Guard and Air National Guard helicopters and boats Saturday.
The local yacht club was planning to hold a private vigil Sunday in honor of the dead and missing crewmembers.
