Indian Lecture Series at Mission San Francisco Solano

"Indigenous Landscapes, Mexicanized Indians and the Archaeology of Social Networks in Alta California" Presented by Ruben Mendoza, Ph.D., Department of Social, Behavioral and Global Studies, CSU, Monterey Bay.

The indigenous landscapes of pre-contact California were decidedly diverse both ecologically and culturally, and were cross-cut by an amazing array of language groups, traditions, and social, economic and political networks. Drawing on the archaeology and ethnohistory of Hispanicized Indian communities identified with the Spanish California Missions of San Juan Bautista, La Soledad, San Miguel Arcangel and San Antonio de Padua, as well as by way of the relations of each with the Presdio Real de Monterey, Dr. Mendoza will address a host of considerations keyed to contact-era developments on California's north central coast.

Light refreshments will be served at 6:30pm. $10 at the door and $5 for S/PSHP Association members and California State Park volunteers and staff.

California State Parks supports equal access. Prior to arrival, visitors who need assistance should contact Mission San Francicsco Solano (707)938-9560.
