Tony Tovaraz Winner of "Leaders and Achievers" Scholarship

Only 185 California high school seniors from 30 counties won a 2013 Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship of $1,000 this year, pretty elite company when you think about it. Anthony Tovaraz of Archbishop Hanna High School was one of them, and he’ll be honored (along with the other 184) at  Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program, next Wednesday, June 12.

Tony Tovaraz is a star athlete at Hanna, despite being born without a left hand – the result of his mother’s drug addition, he believes. He came to Hanna for relatively minor school infractions, but it has proven to be a place where he could blossom. He will be headed for Southern Oregon University in the fall, to play basketball along with his college studies.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors for their leadership skills, positive attitude, academic achievement and various community service activities. Since its inception in 2001, the program has awarded more than $17 million in college aid to more than 17,000 high school seniors.
