Monday, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed two bills into law by Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael).
“These bills will help keep impaired motorists off the road, and reduce court costs,” said Levine. “These are straightforward measures designed to enhance public safety and to increase access to courts by decreasing court costs. I thank Governor Brown for signing my bills into law.”
- AB 1136 (Chapter 304, Statutes of 2013) requires a pharmacist to include a warning sticker on drugs that impair a person’s ability to drive. The bill is supported by the California Senior Legislature, the California Narcotics Officers’ Association and the California State Sheriffs’ Association.
- AB 1352 (Chapter 274, Statutes of 2013) permits state courts to destroy non-controversial records. According to Judicial Council, under Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, California spends more than $21.5 million annually on records retention. “This measure will help the trial courts better carry out their responsibilities as custodians of court records,” said Kim Turner, Executive Officer of Marin County Superior Court.
Assemblymember Levine represents the 10th Assembly District which includes Marin County and southern Sonoma County.
