The Marin County coroner's office has identified the missing hiker who was found dead on Mt. Tamalpais Thursday afternoon as 50-year-old Marie Christine Sanner of Mill Valley.

Sanner was hiking on Mt. Tamalpais and was reported missing by her father around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

About five hours later, her body was found by search crews, according to Lt. Keith Boyd of the coroner's office.

She was last seen near the Mountain Home Range Inn a mile east of the Pantoll Ranger Station, Marin County sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said.

She was found along Fern Creek below and west of the Matt Davis Trail on Mt. Tamalpais, according to Boyd.  Sanner was identified through fingerprints and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

There is no apparent connection to Sanner's death and the death of another woman found Saturday, Boyd said.

"The investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is ongoing and no further information regarding the investigation will be released at this time," he added.

I agree Karen! It does seem far to coincidental that this happened twice, so close together.

She wasn't hiking alone; in the video it says she was with a male friend

The report I read said she and male friend had parted because she wanted to return to the car and he had supposedly decided to keep hiking. Her father is the one who reported her missing. I haven't read much about his whereabouts in all this.

Yes, odd to me that he'd continue on in the dark without her, and just how did he get home? Her car was left there and her dog made it back without her. Did her "male friend" not get alarmed that she didn't come back? Why did so much time go by before reporting her missing?

Their seems to be some unanswered questions on her death that need to be answered. I find it hard to believe that two women could die a couple of weeks apart in the same area as a coincidence. Let's hope they find answers here...
