HOTEL MAKING MORE CHANGES?---Will Hotel Project Sonoma reduce rooms to 25?

Widespread speculation is that Darius Anderson may decide to reduce the number of rooms to 25 to slide under the pending changes proposed by Preserving Sonoma ballot initiative.  Several changes are highlighted on the Facebook website for the hotel that discuss fewer restaurants thus reducing total square footage/footprint of the project.  If Darius decides to conceed it appears that the Preserving Sonoma initiative will continue to prevent any future large hotels from being built if the overall occupancy rates are below 80% as several other proposals were said to be underway down Broadway near the dealership at MacArthur and elsewhere.

Darius has left the back door open particularly with this recent gesture to have an open door on Saturday mornings inviting residents to make appointments to meet with him personally to discuss the hotel available through early August and in reports he indicated he may implement additional changes if the feedback comes back as such.  (**For the record I requested a meeting via email last Friday and have not heard any response thusfar)

Additionally, Darius said early on when the Chateau Sonoma hotel (formerly known as) was proposed that if the people didn't want it he wouldn't do it.  That has yet to be seen.  Many view Andersons ego as overwheling and his recent posturing suggests he is full steam ahead.

How do you think the outcome will shake out?  Will the initiative pass?  Will it be enacted by City Council and avoid the vote or will City Council send it to vote?  Despite the initiave and vote, do you think the hotel will be built with fewer room?  Or do you think Darius will prevail, beat the votes and get his 59 room large hotel?

Will Darius honor his commitment to provide a Living Wage despite whether he drops the number of hotel rooms below 59?  Will it be a real Living Wage in the $15-$20/hr range or a charade like the deal Darius cut for $10 with North Coast Labor Bureau?

My opinion, Preserving Sonoma gets the petition signatures, City Council punts the ball failing to take initiative to pass it themselves and they send it to full vote, Sonoma votes it in at about 70% margin, all the while Darius fights tooth and nail to protect his ego using Protect Sonoma and other venues through unconventional and unethical tactics down to the wire and loses. I'm still undecided if he will ultimately reduce the number of rooms but my gut says no. He's painted himself into a corner and cost the City a ton of stress and anguish and expense because he could have dropped the rooms long ago before the pain he causes. Reminds me of COWS NOT CASINOS brought by Darius in 2003.

To request an appointment, if you are not getting an answer via e-mail, you should try to call Mr. Anderson at (707) 721-8844. That is the number he has on the hotel web site. Questions I would like to see answered: 1) Will the hotel company also run the restaurant, or will the restaurant be leased out to another company? 2) Will the hotel company that owns the hotel property, also be running the hotel, or will the building be leased to a hotel management company? 3) How long does the hotel company plan on running the hotel before selling the business?

As to #3 when the deal is struck with a sovereign Indian Nation you will NEVER get them out...bye bye Sonoma ! You have to think like Anderson i.e. long term. Has he once ever promised to never again try a Sonoma Casino? You see now? No guarantees with this guy ever.

My guess is an LLC real estate holding company to own the hotel and a separate operating company to run the hotel. My guess Anderson affiliate people and companies. As for the restaurant he may try to grab a high profile Chef and run at least one restaurant but it wouldn't surprise me to lease out all the restaurant operations as he already does Ramekins.

David- I'm sure Ralph would have left his contact numbers, right? Why be accused of harrassment?

Sal, e-mail is not reliable. I have sent out e-mails that some people say later that they never received. And how many valid e-mails have you had wind up in spam? I would think that one phone call after not getting a response to an e-mail after 3 business days would not be considered harassment.

David, Darius and I have each others contact information, several different ones and he knows who I am. He's not responding because he doesn't want to and that's fine. I just wanted to make a point that I tried to reach out yet again through his channel and at his invitation, and be transparent in this blog.
