Widespread speculation is that Darius Anderson may decide to reduce the number of rooms to 25 to slide under the pending changes proposed by Preserving Sonoma ballot initiative. Several changes are highlighted on the Facebook website for the hotel that discuss fewer restaurants thus reducing total square footage/footprint of the project. If Darius decides to conceed it appears that the Preserving Sonoma initiative will continue to prevent any future large hotels from being built if the overall occupancy rates are below 80% as several other proposals were said to be underway down Broadway near the dealership at MacArthur and elsewhere.
Darius has left the back door open particularly with this recent gesture to have an open door on Saturday mornings inviting residents to make appointments to meet with him personally to discuss the hotel available through early August and in reports he indicated he may implement additional changes if the feedback comes back as such. (**For the record I requested a meeting via email last Friday and have not heard any response thusfar).
Additionally, Darius said early on when the Chateau Sonoma hotel (formerly known as) was proposed that if the people didn't want it he wouldn't do it. That has yet to be seen. Many view Andersons ego as overwheling and his recent posturing suggests he is full steam ahead.
How do you think the outcome will shake out? Will the initiative pass? Will it be enacted by City Council and avoid the vote or will City Council send it to vote? Despite the initiave and vote, do you think the hotel will be built with fewer room? Or do you think Darius will prevail, beat the votes and get his 59 room large hotel?
Will Darius honor his commitment to provide a Living Wage despite whether he drops the number of hotel rooms below 59? Will it be a real Living Wage in the $15-$20/hr range or a charade like the deal Darius cut for $10 with North Coast Labor Bureau?
