New blog installment describes some behind the scenes of why she felt it was time to leave.

Brief excerpt...link to full blog below.

Why I Left Sonoma

After living nearly a year in wine country, mostly as SonomaValley.Patch.com editor, I left the area afraid for my life.

I know many people will find that hard to believe. I don’t blame you. Once, I would have too. But Sonoma is well known for being “different.”

I am telling this story to protect myself and those I love, and also to stand up for other people in Sonoma who have endured similar experiences.

But some of the town already operates like Vegas.

This town is so not worth it. So gross.

I provided the link so readers can finish reading. I put most but not all the article above.

This town is worth it. To allow people on a power trip to intimidate anyone is unacceptable. It's called bullying...and a topic for discussion all over social media. I stand with Julie...and will not be intimidated...just try me! I am doing my due diligence in researching how this was allowed to happen. Let's keep this front and center...post...post...post!

Brown, Brown, Brown, custodian of "that small town charm."
Ralph Hutchinson December 18, 2013 at 12:33 PM
Brown is a flip flop sellout benefitting from campaign donations, VIP dinners and gifts from Darius Anderson and others. It's all documented in campaign filings and news social page reports. Imagine what could be under the table?
sal nero December 18, 2013 at 02:57 PM
How long will it take for Brown, the SDC "supporter" to say about SDC "the worst can stay and Darius can still develop. It's a WIN-WIN !" and the sycophantic tick-like hangers on roar in applause.

I really appreciate the outpouring of well wishes from Sonoma. However, please don't copy my blog posts onto this site. They are my own work, not to be duplicated. My blog is now on WordPress at http://jpendray1.WordPress.com Ralph, I appreciate very much what you have done here in getting the word out. However, it seems that in copying over the blog you have accidentally duplicated it within the post, so it starts over again. I'd appreciate it if readers go to the original source, but thanks again.

The reason I moved my blog to Word Press is simply because the Patch system kept confusing me because I'd been a previous editor. This made the uploads slow & sometimes impossible. I still support Patch staff & wish them well.

To be clear, I don't mind anyone publishing the link to my blog posts, just not the writing itself. Thanks.

I think that edit meets the spirit of what Pendray wants. Glad to work together on important stories. We'll be watching.
Ralph Hutchinson December 18, 2013 at 05:51 PM
Some of us have blogged for more than 3 years. Pendray didn't start writing about anything substantive (her Patch pieces were mainly puff pieces like puppy dogs and lollipops) with the exception of a survey on Darius ownership that didn't seem widely read, commented on nor voted upon, and an article on Miller the Parents Group leader for SDC. She didn't hit on development or closure or conspiracy of CalWatch and ties to Darius' newspapers. It was pretty much just giving her a voice to talk about violations. Not hard hitting.

Julie what is your problem? If you don't want to have your work posted in other sources. Don't blog. The concept of blogging is not private, and it's not exactly Pulitizer standards. Lighten up...The problem with Sonoma is people don't know hot to lighten up. Critical thinking in Sonoma makes you a dunce, lunatic or immediate outcast. This town is beautiful but Darius and crew is somewhat like the Lorax. Chop it all down to make purdy illusions. Nobody will be complaining until every last oak and native plant is neon lights and concrete.
Ralph Hutchinson December 20, 2013 at 02:03 AM
Umberto I think we had a misunderstanding. It's ok to publish a couple opening paragraphs and the link to the blog but not cut and paste the majority of the text of the blog. We made the changes they seem reasonable.
Ralph Hutchinson December 20, 2013 at 01:09 PM
More than 9000 hits on the blog in 3 days. Vintners getting fallout. Recent commenter to the blog said to be prominent wine industry professional.

I restate to get to the essence of my point. Please respect the risks the news breakers take to get the stories. Stringing them together is just aggregating, which does lend perspective and is helpful. We have already done the math ie... what it looks like in total. There is a culture, no... a rebellion of truth springing forth in the Valley of The Moon that Jack London would be proud of. I'm glad Julie has decided "our" truths are important. I rebuke those who attacked her and those who ordered it. They have attacked all non-conformists and she won't be the last. Were you all aware that a private detective who lives in town was punching the clock awhile back intimidating bloggers concerning the bank? So Julie's men in cars is undeniable as far as I'm concerned.
Ralph Hutchinson December 20, 2013 at 05:34 PM
You mean Jim Drinkhall the intimidating detective. Who did he work for? Did he order the tail on Pendray?
Ralph Hutchinson December 20, 2013 at 05:58 PM
I would relish the chance to commune with Drinkhall. He knows where to reach me.
sal nero December 20, 2013 at 06:02 PM
Yes, perhaps he'd join you for an informative cup of coffee and banker chat?
Ralph Hutchinson December 20, 2013 at 06:09 PM
I doubt it. But I would like to settle an old score.
