14-Year-Old Boy Killed in Coastal Sonoma ATV Crash

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

By Bay City News

A 14-year-old boy was killed in an ATV crash in coastal Sonoma County on Wednesday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The boy, Fort Bragg resident Ryan Kinney, had gone off on his own on a 2000 Yamaha ATV at about 2 p.m. while camping with his father and others on logging property off of Annapolis Road, near The Sea Ranch, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

When he didn't return two hours later, the group went looking for him and found him at about 5:30 p.m. several miles from the camp, Sloat said.

The ATV had crashed and rolled over on top of Ryan, killing him, Sloat said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The CHP was contacted shortly after 7 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
