UPDATED: CHP Releases Identity of Boy Killed By Pickup Truck Tuesday

A 4-year-old boy riding his bicycle alongside his uncle's pickup truck on private property north of Glen Ellen was killed when he veered into the vehicle's path, according to the California Highway Patrol

The California Highway Patrol has identified 4-year-old Julian Soto Jr. as the boy who was killed when he was run over by a pickup truck driven by his uncle Tuesday afternoon.

Gregorio Soto Reyes, 34, of San Leandro, was driving the 2003 Chevrolet pickup on private vineyard and residential property at 5600 Enterprise Road, north of Glen Ellen in unincoporated Sonoma County, around 12:30 p.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

He was driving east at 5 mph on a dirt and gravel section of the road, Sloat said.

His nephew was riding a bicycle behind the truck and began to overtake the pickup on a slight downhill grade, Sloat said.

As the child passed the Chevy, he veered his bicycle to the left and into the path of the truck, Sloat said. The truck struck the bicycle, ejecting the boy and throwing him beneath the moving vehicle.

The Glen Ellen and Bennett Valley fire protection districts responded to the incident, a Sonoma County Fire and Emergency dispatcher said.

The boy was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Sloat said.

The child's death was confirmed at 1:40 p.m., according to the CHP.

Further investigation into the collision is ongoing, and Sloat said that from the preliminary investigation, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
