DUI Checkpoint Results in 12 Arrests Friday

Seven cited for driving without a license and two for being under the influence

Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint Friday night in Sonoma, part of Sonoma County's "Avoid the 13" safe driving campaign, police said.

The checkpoint operation ran from 6 p.m. on Friday to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at northbound and southbound state Highway 12 at Lomita Avenue.

Twelve people were arrested in total, including seven for not having a license and two for driving on a suspended license, police said. A total of 1,977 vehicles passed through the two checkpoints.

The "Avoid the 13" Sonoma County DUI task force is comprised of 13 agencies that operate checkpoints to inform drivers of the dangers of being impaired behind the wheel.
