Early Morning Car Crash, Shooting Closes Bay Bridge

San Francisco Police, CHP are investigating a 2 a.m. car crash on the eastbound Bay Bridge, which was apparently followed by a shooting incident.

 

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a possible shooting on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge following an auto accident this morning at around 2 a.m.

The eastbound section of the bridge heading to Oakland was closed entirely for about 15 minutes at around 2 a.m. After that, three right lanes were opened to allow traffic through while the two left lanes remain closed most of the morning as CHP continued to investigate.

Three lanes were cleared shortly after 8:30 a.m., and all lanes were back open by 10 a.m., CHP Officer James Evans said.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. at the S-curve east of Treasure Island. A shooting followed the crash, but authorities are not yet releasing details about the incident, CHP Officer Michael Ferguson said.

Two people inside the car that crashed were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the crash, Ferguson said.

San Francisco police homicide inspectors are assisting the CHP in the investigation into the shooting, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
