Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority firefighters extinguished a blaze that destroyed a home in Boyes Hot Springs Thursday morning.

A neighbor reported the fire at a single-story 1,200-square-foot home in the 18000 block of Barrett Avenue around 5 a.m., Division Chief Spencer Andreis said.

The fire was burning in the rear of the house, and the roof had partially collapsed when firefighters arrived, Andreis said.

Firefighters were unable to enter the residence and were concerned that someone could be inside, Andreis said.

A Sonoma County sheriff's deputy, however, learned that the tenants -- an elderly mother, her middle-age son and a child -- were not at home, Andreis said.

It took the 28 firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the fire, which started in a rear bedroom, Andreis said.

The cause is still under investigation, but the house is a total loss, he said.
