The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a man killed in a crash east of Sonoma on Monday morning as 82-year-old Donald Bruce Geddes.

Geddes, a Sonoma resident, was driving north on Burndale Road and stopped his 1990 Toyota Corolla at a stop sign at Napa Road around 11:45 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Lisa Paulson said.

Geddes then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Napa Road but was struck by a 2006 Volvo XC90 SUV that was traveling east on Napa Road,
Paulson said.

The driver of the Volvo, Ronald Brown, 39, of San Francisco, swerved to the left but could not avoid a collision, Paulson said.

The Volvo struck the driver's door of the Toyota, killing Geddes, who was alone in his car. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the intersection, CHP officials said.

Brown was not hurt, and his four female passengers -- who included
two children ages 2 and 5 -- suffered only minor injuries, according to the
CHP.

Geddes was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:52 a.m., a coroner's office employee said.
