One Death and 51 DUI Arrests in Bay Area Since Friday Night

Nine fatal collisions have occurred statewide.

The California Highway Patrol reports that 51 people were arrested for driving under the influence in the Bay Area and one person was killed in a collision south of Sonoma during the first day of the Christmas holiday weekend.

On Saturday, a 64-year-old Novato man died in a crash along Highway 101 in downtown San Rafael.

Statewide, nine fatal collisions occurred on CHP roadways during the period between 6 and 11:59 p.m. Friday, killing eight vehicle occupants, according to the CHP. Five of those killed were not wearing a seatbelt.

There were zero fatal collisions during the same period in 2011.
