Driver Flees Overturned Vehicle on Fire in Santa Rosa, Leaves Passengers

Kenneth Lee Sackett, Jr, of Santa Rosa has been arrested.

CHP officers responded to a call of an overturned Mitsubishi Lancer on Willowside Road at Hall Road, at about 6:43 p.m. Wednesday. While officers were en route they were advised that the vehicle was on fire with multiple occupants inside.

Several people stopped to assist the occupants out of the vehicle. One person with a fire extinguisher began to put out the fire.

Once out of the vehicle the driver fled on foot.

Laura Stout, 42, of Santa Rosa, and William Rathjen, 48, of Santa Rosa, both passengers, were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.

CHP officers and Sheriff’s deputies began a search including the creekside trail that runs through the area.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. a deputy located the driver on Fulton Rd. at West 3rd St., where he had walked along the trail.

The driver was identified as Kenneth Lee Sackett, Jr., 33, of Santa Rosa. Sackett was found to have a suspended license and prior convictions for DUI and driving while suspended.

Sackett was transported to Memorial with moderate injuries. He has been arrested and faces charges of felony hit and run and driving while suspended.

It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision.
