Petaluma Police Arrest 4 in DUI/Driver's License Sting

Police arrested four motorists in a Petaluma DUI/driver's license checkpoint sting held at separate locations that started on Friday night and went into Saturday morning, authorities said.

The checkpoints were held on Sonoma Mountain Parkway near Wellington Drive (from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and on Petaluma Boulevard South at Crystal Lane (10 p.m. and 2 a.m.), police Sgt. Jim Stephenson said.

Police screened 431 of the 439 motorists who went through the checkpoints and administered 11 field sobriety tests, Stephenson said.

Gregory Berti, 53, and 23-year-old Michael Greenwood (both of Petaluma) were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Stephenson said.

Police also arrested one motorist on suspicion of driving without a license and another on suspicion of driving with a suspended license. Stephenson said.

The police operations were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The purpose of the checkpoint operation was to raise public awareness about the dangers associated with impaired driving and to take enforcement action against impaired drivers and those driving with a suspended license or no license at all," Stephenson said in a prepared statement.
