Police Log: Restaurants Burglarized Downtown

A series of attempted break-ins targeted restaurants near the Plaza.

Sonoma's dining crew fell victim to several burglaries targeting downtown restaurants over the holidays.

After Lokal closed their doors at 11 p.m. on Dec. 14, a burglar made off with cash and loot. According to a police report, the burglar made off with a 42-inch Samsung TV, several hand tools and beer taps, and a cash drawer filled with over $2,000.

Another burglar attempted to strike  on Dec. 25, prying through one of the restaurant's windows with a crowbar. Police arrived on scene, after the restaurant's silent security alarm alerted them to the break in at 10 p.m.

The next morning the restaurant's chef found the window pried open, and a black hooded sweatshirt in the parking lot, which did not belong to the restaurants staff, according to the police report. The thief was apparently scared off by the cops; nothing was taken from the premises.

They fared better than Meritage Restaurant and Oyster Bar, who reported cash and electronics missing after a Dec. 30 burglary. Sometime after closing the evening of Dec. 29, a crook forced his way through a small window, stealing $700 worth of cash, a 40-inch television (valued at $1,200,) and a $1,800 computer. Police retrieved fingerprints, a shoe impression, and a 7-11 coffee cup left on scene, but do not currently have any suspects.
