Police Urge Vigilance After Auto Burglaries

Lock your car doors, be aware of the neighborhood, and alert authorities if you spot anything suspicious

 

Police are asking residents to be extra vigilant when parking, after a series of auto burglaries, which have plagued downtown in recent weeks.

In mid-December, a thief hit a series of unlocked cars on Sonoma's west side, making off with over $7,000 in stolen property.

Just over a week later the thieves struck again, with eight incidents on record Christmas.

The crimes are preventable: in most cases the targeted vehicles were left unlocked.

To avoid being a target, Sonoma Police advise that residents be extra vigilant when locking car doors and not leave any valuables in their cars. Residents are also asked to report any suspicious behavior to the department.

“Residents don’t want to bother us, but please if you see something give us a call, we are happy to come out," Sonoma Police Dept. Sgt. Spencer Crum.
