The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is stepping up safety
enforcement efforts at popular Russian River beach areas on Memorial Day
The areas include Fitch Mountain Road in Healdsburg, Del Rio Woods
Beach, Camp Rose and Steelhead Beach in Forestville.
Neighbors have complained about littering, including unsanitary
waste on beaches and roads, unsafe parking, intoxicated beach goers, large
crowds, rowdy behavior and traffic congestion.
The sheriff's office stepped up enforcement in the areas in
response to incidents in 2010.
Homeowners in the Fitch Mountain Road area have hired private
security for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends, the
sheriff's office said.
Security guards will report violations to law
enforcement agencies, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office will add patrols on waterways and roads in
the area on the three holiday weekends.
They will target alcohol and
littering violations, DUI driving, illegally parked vehicles and will tow
vehicles that block emergency access, the sheriff's office said.
