Shooting Injury Leads to Grow Discovery

Humboldt-area pot worker shoots himself in the leg, leading to illegal marijuana cultivation site in Wine Country.

 

Tuesday evening at 10:37, Sonoma County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to Calistoga Rd. and Hwy. 12, at the west end of Sonoma Valley, to meet a gunshot victim who had accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The shooting had occurred at an unknown location in the wooded area off of Calistoga Road above Santa Rosa, according to the victim's companion. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Micah David Bigelow, is originally from the Humboldt area, Bigelow was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and treated for his injury.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit determined the incident had taken place at a residence in the 5000 block of Gates Road in Santa Rosa, not far from the intersection of Calistoga Rd. with Petrified Forest Rd.

At the scene, detectives located an elaborate indoor and outdoor marijuana grow.

According to a report in the Press Democrat, "Investigators discovered 994 marijuana plants, 250 pounds of processed pot and two greenhouses each about 2,500 square feet, Sgt. Mike Raasch said."

Four people were cited for suspected marijuana cultivation.
