A Sonoma man was crushed by a tree he was helping move at a home east of Sonoma Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Jarrad Plasket, 33, an arborist with Ironbark Arborists of Sonoma, moved under the tree as it was being lowered to the ground by a crane at a residence in the 19300 block of Lovall Valley Court in unincorporated Sonoma County, Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

The redwood tree was horizontal about 15-20 feet above ground when it snapped in half and fell on top of Plasket, causing major injuries, Crum said.

Plasket was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa and transferred to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he is listed in critical condition, Crum said.

Ironbark Arborists and Precision Crane Service of Santa Rosa were hired by the homeowner to cut the tree in the back yard and put it in the front yard for removal, Crum said.

Cal-OSHA responded to the incident and is investigating, Crum said.
