Sonoma Man Pleads Guilty to Six Counts of Assault in After-Hours Pizza Brawl

Uriel Caballero-Ramos faces five years in state prison for his role in the late-night brawl at New Yorker Pizza back in November 2012.

A Sonoma man will spend the next five years of his life in state prison for his role in a late-night fight that occurred at a Petaluma pizza joint back in November 2012.

On Friday, Uriel Caballero-Ramos, 25, of Sonoma, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony assault, four counts of misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest for a Nov. 4, 2012 assault that occurred at New Yorker Pizza.

District Attorney Jill Ravitch stated, “This unprovoked attack was completely unjustified.  His actions of extreme force escalated a benign situation to a medical emergency in which innocent people were seriously injured.  Mr. Caballero-Ramos has earned his lengthy prison sentence.”

The charges resulted from a fight that broke out in front of New Yorker Pizza around 1 a.m., on November 4.  After an argument that began in line, Caballero-Ramos assaulted six different victims by elbowing and punching them.  One female victim suffered a severely bruised orbital and a concussion.  Another male victim dislocated his shoulder when he fell to the ground during the fight, according to a press release.

Caballero-Ramos fled the scene and ran from officers but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit by Petaluma Police officers.  He also pled to resisting arrest.

Caballero-Ramos’ sentencing is set for May 15, 2013.  He will be sentenced to serve five years in the state prison, a sentence that was negotiated with the District Attorney’s Office.
