Two Sonoma Bicyclists Injured Near St. Helena

The women were hit by a vehicle that entered the bike lane Monday.

Two Sonoma bicyclists suffered moderate to major injuries Monday when they were hit by a car while riding in a bike lane, Napa CHP officers report.

Beatrice McIntosh, 67, and Jean Behse, 72, were hit as they rode south on Highway 29, north of St. Helena, at about 12:40 p.m.

Driver Norman Pierce, 69, of Napa was coming up behind them on the highway, when his 2001 Pontiac went into the bike lane and struck the women, according to the report. The crash remains under investigation. Officers didn’t believe alcohol was involved.

The women were taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. McIntosh suffered major injuries and Behse had moderate injuries, according to initial reports.
