UPDATED: Vehicle Kills Man Walking in Arnold Drive Bike Lane

A Sonoma man walking in a bicycle lane was killed this afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
Pedro Velez Hernandez, a 32-year-old Sonoma man, was walking in the bike lane.

Thornton Bunch Jr., 74, of Napa, was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius north on Arnold Drive south of Grove Street in unincorporated Sonoma County near Sonoma around 3 p.m., CHP Officer Garrett Ray said.
For some reason Bunch allowed the Toyota to travel into the bike lane and struck Hernandez who was pronounced dead at the scene, Ray said.

According to Patch readers, the car traveled through a fence before coming to rest.
The CHP closed Arnold Drive between Grove and Center streets and diverted traffic around the scene.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, Ray said.
Hernandez was walking in an area of Arnold Drive without sidewalks.
