Santa Rosa police found 300 hens and roosters suggesting a possible cockfighting operation when they arrested a man on a drug charge Monday, a police sergeant said.
Police went to 4455 Miles Ave., in the Roseland area west of Santa Rosa city limits in Sonoma County to serve a search warrant around 3 p.m., Sgt. Chad Heiser said.
Police found the hens and roosters in pens and located some thin metal spurs that are put on roosters during cockfights, Heiser said.
Police notified Sonoma County Animal Care and Control and turned the cockfighting investigation over to them, Heiser said.
Animal Care and Control Director Amy Cooper did not return a call for comment today.
Police arrested 42-year-old Jose Lopez Vidal for possession of methamphetamine for sales and found cash and packaging materials during the
search, Heiser said.

goes on in this County. Worse, is that no matter how many reports Animal Care and Control gets about this from concerned citizens, no one appears to investigate or check into a complaint. The hope is that if it is all ignored or avoided we can live on happily ever after, despite all the evidence that we know is being ignored all around us.
I have reported many times large amounts of roosters on property many cars there. I have reported dog fighting to ACC and guess what nothing. zero zilch nada nothing. The only time you get their attention is if the Sheriffs Dept calls them because well they have to at that point. Or call the Press Democrat and then you see some reaction. They could not ignore this. Its so sad that ACC continues to conduct business every day like this. But certainly cock fighting and dog fighting is rampant in the county.
