City Council to Green Light Three Hour Parking, Review Maysonnave Cottage

The Sonoma City Council is meeting Monday night in twice, once with the Sonoma Valley Health Care District at 5, and an hour later in regular City Council session, at 6 p.m.

Several items of the Consent Calendar, usually passed by up-or-down vote on a slate of measures that have already been heard by Council, pertain to the new expanded three-hour parking limits in Downtown Sonoma.

Another item of interest to many local residents, especially those concerned with the heritage of Sonoma, is the a request for proposals for the re-use and renovation of the Maysonnave Cottage.

The "Lease, Re-Use, Renovation, or Re-Location of the Maysonnave Cottage at 289 First Street East" came up earlier this year in Council meetings with suggestions ranging from "burn it down" to conversion to a tourist vacation rental.

The western portion of the site is leased to the Sonoma Pétanque Association for pétanque and bocce courts. The remaining portion of the property contains a secondary residential dwelling, having an area of 1,090 square feet, that is no longer occupied due to safety concerns

The RFP that the council is expected to approve would seek bids on either making the cottage inhabitable and bringing it up to current code, or relocating the cottage away from its 1st St. East location, with certain conditions applying.

The full agenda and packet is available on the City of Sonoma website here.
